ABOUT

The Hardin County Board of Developmental Disabilities services persons who have a disability from infants to adults.  We have programming for infants and toddlers ages birth to 3, Early Intervention, preschool for children ages 3 to 5, school age for students ages 6 - 22, and adults.  County Boards of Developmental Disabilities in Ohio were first created by law in 1967 through the enactment of House Bill 169.  The major and primary mission of County Boards is to ensure the availability of programs, services and supports that assist eligible individuals with developmental disabilities in choosing and achieving a life of increasing capability such that they can live, work and play in the community, and to assist and support the families of these individuals in achieving this objective.

The Ohio Revised Code mandates that the Board be comprised of seven Board Members, five of whom shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, and two of whom shall be appointed by the Probate Judge in each county.  Of the members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, at least two  shall be relatives of persons eligible for services provided by the County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and, whenever possible, one shall be a relative of a person eligible for adult services, and the other shall be a relative of a persons eligible for Children Services (early intervention, pre-school or school age).  Of the members appointed by the probate judge, at least one shall be a relative of a person eligible for residential services or supported living.  On our Board Mrs. Susan Umphress is the appointee who has a relative eligible for Adult Services while Mr. John Kraft represents the relative of an individual eligible for Children Services.  Mrs. Teresa Williams was appointed by the Probate Judge and is a relative of an individual who is eligible for residential services or supported living
